Bom sucesso - Design Resort, Leisure, Golf & Spa: a nova Urbanidade Turística

Abstract

This thesis aims to study, analysis and debate alliance between contemporary architecture and the renewed concept of urbanity promoted by hospitality industry - resort. The choice of this theme is based on the fact that this is rarely addressed / examination and who is in full expansion. So set the aim of this test, the approach is divided into four parts. The first centered on the historical analysis of the recent evolution of the concept of resort / gated community, extrapolating to the tourism architecture in Portugal and its relationship with the concept of gated community. In the second paragraph it was assumed the position called the architect to develop the design of each part of the complex. Ie the study site and Election justification of Óbidos for implementing the resort; relations with the surrounding, existing experiences, the climate, morphology and geographical situation as well as the available infrastructure. In a parallel when the analysis focused on the study of the concept and the master plan proposed by the promoter. This stage is dealt with horizontally and distribution of access, housing and equipment. Afterwards the individual research of each type and its relationship to the global complex. A third chapter, which attempts to conclude about the final result in terms of urban integration, pointing to the success of interventions or announcing some adaptation for sustainability of the model. This last point is subdivided into three questions: The first denouncing the concern with the concept of permanent exhibition of contemporary architecture associated to this theme. They set out some references to the example of Weissenhof in Stuttgart, coordinated by Mies Van Der Rohe Arqt.º. Later analyzes targeting the complex - adding to the existing and acting as complement, or, alternatively, to a watertight core, without urban concerns beyond its physical limits. Finally the sustainability of the project, or this type of resort, where a brief reference to ecological issues but focuses mainly on the concept of evolution of the problem in future terms. The conclusion follows in this case the compilation of the elations of the previous chapters. The end result is a very private / personal opinion that sees itself as incomplete element, since it is not possible to analyze the complex completed as well as the recurring livings there. I intend to conclude about the probability of creation of urbanity initiated by the resort, or on the contrary, in the purely commercial side that will only result in the repetition of the model.
