| Title: | A Construção Pré-fabricada de Betão. Contributo para o estudo da sua aplicação em Portugal na segunda metade do Século XX |

| Abstract: | The building production is gradually submitted to technical conditioning which were becoming more complex. The investment on investigation areas about thermal comfort, construction and infrastructure techniques provoked the development of the technical and scientific sector, unattached from the architect. The industrialisation of the constructive sector enabled the investigation of constructive techniques like prefabrication. The Post-War period is characterized by prefabrication techniques with materials like concrete, wood and steel. Concrete technical development, enabled its application not only on structures but also as decoration, presenting itself in form of several surface finishes. The developed work had as principal objectives the recognition of the precast concrete techniques and the understanding of its role in Portuguese civil construction during the second half of the 20th century. This study remitted to non-industrial buildings, with public character programmes, published during that time in architectural journals like "Arquitectura" and "Binário". It was verified that the concrete usage on prefabrication, in Portugal, was moderate, whereas other European countries took the most profit from this technique, like in the reconstruction of entire cities. | Description: | Durante o século XX a produção de edifícios foi gradualmente submetida a condicionamentos técnicos cada vez mais complexos. O investimento em áreas de investigação sobre o conforto térmico, técnicas construtivas ou infra-estruturas provocou o desenvolvimento de um sector técnico e científico, desvinculado do arquitecto. A industrialização do sector construtivo permitiu a exploração de técnicas construtivas como a pré-fabricação. O período do Pós-Guerra ficou caracterizado por experiências de pré-fabricação em materiais como o betão, a madeira e o aço. O desenvolvimento técnico do betão no século XX, possibilitou a sua aplicação não só em estruturas, mas também como revestimento, apresentando-se com diversos acabamentos de superfície. O trabalho desenvolvido teve como principais objectivos o reconhecimento das potencialidades da pré-fabricação de betão e a compreensão do seu papel no sector da construção civil portuguesa, na segunda metade do século XX. O estudo remeteu para edifícios não industriais, com programas de carácter público, publicados em periódicos de arquitectura da época, como as revistas Arquitectura e Binário. Constatou-se um uso comedido da pré-fabricação do betão, em Portugal, quando países Europeus tiravam o maior partido desta técnica, na reconstrução de cidades inteiras.
