Title: DOM-INO.
Issue Date: 2010-11-29
Abstract: It has become commonly accepted that the DOM-INO is a Le Corbusier research product on the reconstruction of the devastated territories in World War I, closely linked to developments in technology and construction practices of the late nineteenth century, in particular, reinforced concrete . Often considered "revolutionary", the design of the DOM-INO is not spontaneous and the result of a summary of preliminary ideas and moments embedded in the systematization of the practice and teaching of rationalist oriented architecture (dating back to the eighteenth century Europe). The avant-garde character and DOM-INO break is certainly not oblivious to the systematization of rational solutions to problems projectação Jean-Nicolas-Louis Durand (1760-1834) who, along with Antoine-Chrysostome Quatremère Quincy ( 1755-1849), among others, introduced the story as a source a priori for the architecture. The DOM-INO will also perhaps associated with the rationalistic approach to history of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc (1814-1879) with Le Corbusier was introduced to the theoretical writings of the architect, by Auguste Perret, when he joined the office of this in 1908 . We can also observe in the proposals of Claude Nicolas Ledoux (1736-1806), the objectualisation architectural building, one of the myths of modernity that Le Corbusier embodied with the "machine à habiter" potentially installed in the skeleton of the DOM-INO. This study investigates the DOM-INO as an important archaeological artifact to the debate on the practice of architecture and its historical foundation.
