| Abstract: | This paper will analyze the changes in urban environment, considering the historic city places as the perfect stages of life in society. As a starting point, it will try to identify this last decades' big urban and social changes, that in the midst of a threat from the specialization of the social bonds, has putted the normal behavior of society at risk, making it lose is own identity at times. Between the various contemporary happenings that continually build and modify the urban spaces, this work ponders on the event European Capital of Culture. An event with an huge cultural and urban dimension, that between the brevity of the actual event and the sustainability of the movement afterwards, manages to permanently modify the citys and stages of intervention. Having the city of Oporto as a case study, nominee for European Capital of Culture in 2001, and the city of Guimarães, that will host the event in 2012, it will try to understand the impact of the transformations in the ordinary life of collective spaces. Analyzing the decades before the events, the decade of 1990 in Oporto and 2000 in Guimarães, it shows the cultural dynamics and the politics of rehabilitation, that allow the citys to aspire to the nomination. The intentions of this two propositions are reviewed in light of the continuity of the previous contexts and their will to change the urban environments. Studying the cultural and urban dimension of the event in the two citys, it tries to identify the movements created in the times after Oporto 2001and detect signs of change that are already evident in the city of Guimarães. It's trough the crossing of this two dimensions that it tries to reflect about the urban collective environment of both city's tradition and about the impact of the big event in the re-imaging of this urban landscapes and the ways to interact within the city. The study tries to find ways to maintain the historic city inserted in the urban dynamics trough this events. Trying to understand if it accomplished our not the recuperation of the vitality, diversification and identity, usual characteristics of the everyday life of the city centers. |
| Description: | Este trabalho visa analisar as alterações do quotidiano urbano considerando os espaços da cidade histórica como os palcos por excelência da vida colectiva. Como ponto de partida, procura-se identificar as grandes alterações urbanas e sociais das últimas décadas, que, perante a ameaça da especialização dos laços afectivos, da "disneyficação" e da nobilitação, colocaram em risco o quotidiano ímpar do tecido tradicional, provocando, por vezes, a perda da sua identidade. Entre os vários acontecimentos contemporâneos que constroem e modificam continuamente os espaços urbanos e o quotidiano da vida colectiva, o trabalho incide no grande evento Capital Europeia da Cultura. Um evento com uma dimensão cultural e uma dimensão urbana, que entre o efémero do acontecimento e a sustentabilidade dos movimentos pós-evento, tem a capacidade de modificar os palcos das intervenções e as cidades. Tendo como casos de estudo a cidade do Porto, nomeada Capital Europeia da Cultura em 2001, e a cidade de Guimarães, que irá acolher o evento em 2012, procura-se compreender o impacto das transformações no quotidiano colectivo dos espaços públicos. A retrospectiva das décadas anteriores ao evento, a década de 1990 na cidade do Porto e a de 2000 em Guimarães, analisa as dinâmicas culturais e as políticas de reabilitação, que permitiram às cidades aspirar à candidatura. As intenções das duas propostas são revistas em relação à continuidade dos contextos anteriores e à vontade expressa de alteração dos cenários urbanos. Estudando a dimensão cultural e a dimensão urbana do evento nas duas cidades, tenta-se identificar os movimentos gerados no pós-Porto 2001 e detectar os sinais de mudança que já se revelam na cidade de Guimarães. É através do cruzamento das duas dimensões que se procura reflectir sobre o quotidiano colectivo actual dos tecidos tradicionais de ambas as cidades e sobre o significado do grande acontecimento no redesenho dos cenários culturais e das formas de habitar os espaços urbanos. O trabalho procura nos eventos formas de manter a cidade histórica inserida nas restantes dinâmicas urbanas. Tentando perceber se conseguiram ou conseguirão provocar a recuperação da vitalidade, diversificação e identidade, características próprias do quotidiano intenso que é apanágio dos centros das cidades. |
