Title: A colecção de vasos gregos do museu de história natural da Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto
Issue Date: 2007
Abstract: : After a brief survey of the story of the acquisition of a collection of Greek vases and other antiques by the University of Oporto in 1927, in exchange for the Assyrian material from excavations in Mesopotamia conducted by the German archaeologist Walter Andrae, which had been apprehended in the harbour of Lisbon during the First World War, a catalogue with a description and photos of every item is provided. The conclusion is that the collection, which is presently housed in the Museum of Natural History of the Oporto Faculty of Sciences, although consisting only of twelve vases, has been carefully chosen by the Berlin Museums in order to illustrate different shapes and most of the main styles known at that time, such as Mycenaean, Boeotian, Corinthian, Attic black figure, Attic red figure, Lucanian, Apulian, Campanian and Gnathia technique.
