| Title: | A Junta Patriótica do Norte : um projecto republicano de rememoração da I Guerra Mundial em Portugal |

| Abstract: | The Junta Patriótica do Norte (JPN) was created a month after Germany's declaration of war, stating that one of its purposes would be to follow the conflict. However, its efforts were extended and intensified in the postwar period, particularly with respect to assistance to war orphans, the organization of war commemorations, and last but not least, the dissemination and implementation of artistic tributes to the war's fallen men. This article intends, besides the organic understanding of the institution, to first explore the Junta's role in the conflict's mobilization efforts and, second, its role in how the memory - material and immaterial - of World War I in Portugal has be shaped. |
| Description: | A Junta Patriótica do Norte constituiu-se passado um mês da declaração de guerra da Alemanha, determinando que a sua actividade acompanharia o conflito. Porém, o seu esforço prolongou-se e acentuou- -se no pós-guerra, nomeadamente no que diz respeito à assistência aos órfãos de guerra, às comemorações das efemérides e, por fim, mas não menos importante, à divulgação e concretização de manifestações artísticas de homenagem aos homens mortos. Neste artigo procura-se, num primeiro momento, para além do entendimento orgânico da instituição, analisar o seu papel na mobilização para o conflito e, numa segunda fase, estudar, em estreita dialéctica com os processos rememorativos oficiais, o seu lugar na delineação - material e imaterial - da memória da I Guerra Mundial em Portugal. |
