Abstract:	This text intends to present the concepts of barraganía and bastardy through the examination of two complementary sources: the medieval Portuguese books of nobility of the 13th and 14th centuries, and the chancellery register books, where the monarchs kept the texts of the granted letters of legitimacy. Furthermore, this contribution also seeks to give a quantitative dimension to this phenomenon in the context of the Portuguese medieval noble family between the 12th and 14th centuries.
Description:	Este texto pretende apresentar a barregania e a bastardia através de duas fontes complementares, os nobiliários medievais portugueses dos séculos XIII e XIV, por um lado, e os livros de registo de chancelaria, por outro, onde ficavam guardados os textos das cartas de legitimação concedidas pelos monarcas. No final, procura-se dar uma dimensão quantitativa desse fenómeno no quadro da família nobre medieval portuguesa entre os séculos XII e XIV.
