Abstract

This report was carried out within the scope of the clinical internship of the IX Masters in Orthognathic Surgery and Orthodontic (MCOO) at the stomatology service of University Hospital Center São João (CHUSJ). It aims to make known the course throughout the professional internship, sharing the experience and knowledge acquired as all the orthodontic-surgical practical work and evaluating the pedagogical result in a critical way. During this internship in a hospital, several cases were performed there, mostly surgical orthodontics and with complex pathologies such as cleft lip and palate. The entire practice over the two years is described and the case series of treated cases is also presented. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the way we worked and the academics calenders suffer considerable changes: the internship was between October 2019 and March 2020 with 10 hours per week; in March of the same year, clinical practice was suspended, starting in July 2020 until October 2021, with a workload of 5 hours per week. The above-mentioned changes, together with the lack of information regarding the virus that causes the disease, were the biggest limitations found in carrying out the internship and in a continuous work for effective orthodontic treatments Key words: Professional internship; cleft lip and palate; Surgical orthodontic treatment.
