O Potencial Atual dos Moinhos Abandonados do Rio Ovelha: Uma abordagem crítica do património molinológico

Abstract

This dissertation proposes a critical reading on the topic of watermills, particularly about the role that they can comprise in the present time. It aims to understand the patrimonial, cultural, and architectonic role played by these structures through an in-depth study of the molinological history, in order to comprehend how they can be adapted nowadays without compromising its identity and historical value. It's proposed as the focus of the study, the programmatic possibilities that can be converted and included in watermills has a way to preserve its patrimony and allow abidance in future times. In this sense, issues like pedagogy, culture, infrastructure, and energetic production will be applied to the molinological structures with the goal of preservation and adaptation. In order to comprehend the relevance of this subject matter, we looked at a river bounded by the outskirts of a city, surveying all the examples of existing watermills, categorizing them by mill and conservation state. Given the panoply of buildings found in the river, it was selected for this dissertation 3 water mills- the ruin, the house, and the isolated- analyzed and studied from its structure to the surroundings, using a pre-projetual approach about the possible functional applications. It is from the extensive study of the context and knowledge about watermills, as well as the analysis and mapping of different examples, that allows to create a bases for a systemic intervention about these structures, couldn't keep up with the industrial development, in order to maintain preserved the patrimony and at the same time give them a second life.
