Pensar o projeto em arquitetura. Quatro instrumentos, quatro aproximações

Abstract

In architecture we recurrently face the use of instruments to develop, understand, build or study projects. Since they are so present, such proximity may hinder the reflection and perception of their meanings and the role they play in the designing process. Thus, throughout the present dissertation we propose to study how design tools participate in the work methodologies in architecture. We intend to reflect on how such tools can be used as ways of approaching the project. In a first moment, we briefly question the meaning of the term 'project' in architecture, as well as the components of its process and the possibility of existing a method to project. In a second moment, the main question of this dissertation emerges. Four instruments - drawing, model, image and writing - will be approached in a generic way. Then, we will focus on the way they are used by four architects: Álvaro Siza, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Eduardo Souto de Moura and Giorgio Grassi, respectively.
