Casa Avelino Duarte. Planeamento de Habitações Unifamiliares em Ovar

Abstract

Contemporary housing in the early 80s reveals a concept about design and construction in Portugal, which serves as a motte for the critical reflection presented in this dissertation, around the work of the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira. This work is structured around three distinct phases: exposition of the enunciative period of the author's life and work; the analysis of Casa Avelino Duarte and the final exercise with an effective practical component of the 4 Habitações em Ovar project. About the author, aspects related to his life and education are exposed, emphasizing the drawing component; the influences and knowledge during his academic process and the methods of creation and analysis in Álvaro Siza Vieira. Casa Avelino Duarte, built between 1980 and 1984, is the center of this analysis. From there, topics such as the approach to the place, the programmatic context, the ideological concept of the project, the metric proportion, multifunctionality, references, final drawings and construction methods are approached. The project 4 Habitações em Ovar appears as the practical part of this work. It follows the same organization as the analysis of the author's reference work for this dissertation, and culminates with the demonstration of the constructive methods priorized by Álvaro Siza Vieira throughout his career. In short, it appears that it is possible to project a parallelism between works created in different temporal moments (such as the 80's and the present), registering a mark of consistency that allows, without difficulty, to identify the work of Álvaro Siza Vieira.
