Abstract

This work focuses on the project for the requalification of a single-family house, locally known as "the house of the boards". This requalification exercise, in addition to being the culmination of an academic path that I started with the integrated master's degree, also ends up serving as a pretext to explore themes of architecture that are dear to me, such as the relationship that a project can establish with a more sensorial and subjective - based on concepts such as memory, senses and dreams. The house is located in Paredes de Viadores, in the municipality of Marco de Canaveses, and was inhabited by my father during a certain period of his childhood. Thus, in addition to this academic exercise, a more human component comes from the affective proximity that I have with this house. Superimposed on the various readings and problematizations that emerged from the analysis of the house, this assumed a role of stimulus from the first moment and continuously, during the process of maturation regarding the indispensable themes of thought and elaboration of the project. In this manner, the dialogue is then delineated by themes and moments associated with the house, the project, and generically, the practice of architecture. Motivated by this attitude of permanent questioning in the search for coherence for the project, a proposal for the future use of the house emerged. Respectively, questions around an interpretation and exploration of the past, the present, and the place of the house, as well as areas associated with the act of architectural practice, such as memory and the senses that are registered in the materiality of the ruin itself, in the memories of those who lived there, in the reading nowadays, in the evaluation of those who lived there, and of those who will draw it. These were the base itineraries for the scope of the explorations. As a whole, this work is an approach that takes into account all these stimuli and expectations. In order for the result to be coherent, it was never lost sight of the fact that the house was inhabited.
