Intervir e Adaptar na Contemporaneidade a partir da noção de Tipo. Seminário de Santa Teresinha

Abstract

The following dissertation has as focal point the subject of the intervention in existing buildings, with historical and/or affective value that for numerous reasons need transformation. Here we seek to clarify a way of doing Architecture, construct a knowledge of knowing how to intervene modifying and adapting without, however, distort and transform the nature of the object. To do so, one seeks to expose the notions relative to the type and its significant contribution to a clearer and more enlightening interpretation of Architecture, by seeing it as an operative project tool, as a conceptual instrument that allows us to comprehend the versatility and variation of architectural structures, without it undermining its shape and historicity, its essence. Simultaneously we try to understand the physical capacity of buildings in the process of adapting to new programs and uses, calling for a better understanding the case studies of the Guesthouse of Santa Marinha da Costa, from the architect Fernando Távora, and the Guesthouse of Santa Maria do Bouro from the architect Eduardo Souto Moura. Navigating through these subjects, the Seminar of Santa Teresinha is not intended to be more than the closing of a loop in the form of an experimentation exercise, where the usefulness and relevance of the studied subjects, applied to a real object with real circumstances and conditions, are explored.
