| Abstract: | The article discusses the so-called honour killing in literature, starting from the 1995 novel Os Dois Irmãos, by Cape Verdean Germano Almeida, based on a real case in which the author intervened as a public prosecutor. It then establishes approaches to two other works: the novel Crónica de una muerte announced, by the Colombian Gabriel García Marquez, and the short story La verità by Luigi Pirandello. The three narratives - from different languages, genres, times, spaces and continents - show the complexity of a theme that, seen from the West, seems simple and doomed to extinction, but which continues to occur, taking different forms and challenging our understanding. |
| Description: | O artigo aborda o crime de honra na literatura, partindo do romance Os dois Irmãos, do cabo-verdiano Germano Almeida. Publicado em 1995, o livro é baseado num caso real em que o autor interveio como delegado do ministério público. São também feitas aproximações a duas outras obras com um tema semelhante: a novela Crónica de una muerte anunciada, do colombiano Gabriel García Márquez, e o conto de Luigi Pirandello La verità. As três narrativas - de línguas, gêneros, tempos, espaços e continentes diferentes - mostram a complexidade de um tema que, visto do ocidente, parece simples e condenado à extinção, mas que continua a ocorrer, assumindo formas diversas e desafiando a nossa compreensão. |
