Tectónica, Energia, Lugar: Para uma leitura da Sustentabilidade na Arquitetura

Abstract

This dissertation proposes a critical reading on the theme of sustainability, particularly on the relevance of the natural integration of bioclimatic design in the project as a reflection of a profound relation with the place. It aims to incorporate the principles of sustainability in Architecture without compromising the meaning of the discipline and the commitments with other project issues, distancing itself from sustainable categorizations and the consequent technocratization of its application. It is proposed as the focus of study 'the tectonic culture', whose principle underlines the expressive value of Architecture from its material and constructive dimension. Tectonics, in its genesis, is linked to the phenomenon of gravity as it focuses on the expression of constructive elements that are based on the structure as their central theme - the foundation, the pilar, the wall, the beam, the tie, the joint. Given the scope of the tectonic domain, this dissertation defines the constructive logic from an energetic approach with the purpose of investigating the relation of the project's thermodynamic response with its expressive form. The study of four projetual cases in different contexts - in Yirrkala, Regensburg, Girona and Montélimar - is used to expose the plurality of formal solutions resulting from different energy approaches as a response to the context. It is from the expressiveness of a project's energetic work, derived from the relation with the several movements and dynamics latent in the place, that the approach to sustainability in Architecture is being developed in this dissertation - Tectonics, Energy, Place.
