Arquitetura da Paisagem. Um Projeto a partir da Pequena Casa

Abstract

Since the 20th century, we have been made aware of the constraining conditions of climate change that put the planet at risk, introducing new challenges that architecture could address. Since nature is a cyclical process in constant transformation, a deeper integration of landscape architecture in the practice of architecture is sought, in order to design and build according to the needs of both of man and the place itself. Through this interdisciplinary blend between architecture and landscape design, the concept of landscape becomes essential for the interpretation of a place and, therefore, for the conception of the architectural project. As the latter cannot abdicate either research or experimentation, this dissertation is composed of a practical excercise and a theoretical essay that intertwine and validate or refute each other. Consequently, the current pandemic contingency is taken advantage of to rethink the domestic intimacy of a single-family dwelling in a specific rural context, through the use of both a real site and a real request, which provide the necessary complexity to the project experiment. Since no art or architecture piece is possible without references, examples from architectural history will be used, both to meditate on how one might design a house and to explore the possible relationships between architecture and landscape, which will later be applied to the project exercise.
