Clarificar, Reabilitar, Dignificar. As condicionantes como ferramenta na intervenção das ilhas do Porto

Abstract

This dissertation focuses on the ilhas do Porto and the objectives can be defined in two work fronts: on one hand, present the current context in which these typologies belong to through social and spatial conditions, the legal and financial framework and its respective support organizations; on the other hand, it seeks to establish this initial context and its consequent opportunities for the rehabilitation of these typologies, whose precarious housing conditions subsist for more than a century, through the definition of principles and strategies of intervention. Regarding the methodology, the present work's investigation draws on recent bibliography as well as the collection of information of other academic works that focused on these typologies, with intention of propelling new information. It also creates information from drawings and graphic content for the study of a rehabilitation project that was designed on another decade. This method also happens for the design and application of the new strategies indentified before and introduced in a real urban context. The approach to this urban context was initiated through a case study analysed on the workshop Arquitetos de Família (third edition) and it consisted in the dialog and interactions with the habitants and the architectonical survey and mapping of their houses. Subsquently, the same was done on adjacent ilhas. Thereby, the present dissertation seeks to open the discussion on the rehabilitation of these typologies based on the existing opportunities, putting the architect as the intermediary between all the existing constraints, in an effort to summarize them so that the compreension of the methods and strategies to implement in these rehabilitation projects may be facilitated.
