Descendre vers le midi de l'Europe. Impressions de voyages : Un rêve d'Europe de F. Göranson (2019 [2018]) et Le Cœur de l'Europe d'E. Ruben (2018)

Abstract

The aim will be to provide a representational and political reading of the southern European continent, perceived from two generically different narratives such as the graphic novel by Swedish author Fabian Göranson, A Dream of Europe (2018), and the short narrative of French writer Emmanuel Ruben's trip to the Balkans, symptomatically titled The Heart of Europe (2018). In both cases, we are dealing with recent rediscovery of the south of Europe in the light of historical events and societal changes arising from both the conflicts caused by the implosion of Yugoslavia and the sovereign debt crisis of southern European countries between 2010 and 2015. In fact, these two texts turn out to be "travel impressions" through the eyes of globetrotters-narrators.
