| Abstract: | Based on Sarmento de Beires' narrative about the journey by air, which, in 1924, first linked Portugal to Macau in a pioneering raid of world aviation, we seek to assess the significance of this daring achievement in the context of international aviation and Portugal's relationship with the Portuguese colony residing in Macau, as well as the impact that such an undertaking had on the Portuguese people and political life in Lisbon. |
| Description: | Tomando como base a narrativa de Sarmento de Beires sobre a viagem aérea que, em 1924, ligou pela primeira vez Portugal a Macau, num raide pioneiro da aviação mundial, procura-se avaliar o significado deste feito no contexto da aviação internacional e da relação de Portugal com a colónia portuguesa residente em Macau, bem como o impacto que tal empreendimento teve no povo português e na vida política em Lisboa. |
