| Title: | Digital Storytelling Practice in Elementary Japanese A1.2 |

| Abstract: | This paper presents digital storytelling (DST) practice in an elementary Japanese A1.2 class. First, I will describe the current situation and issues of Japanese language teaching in Portugal and at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, followed by the background to the implementation of digital storytelling. Next, I discuss previous research on digital storytelling in university language teaching and examine whether the digital storytelling implemented has the same pedagogical effects as these previous studies. I asked students to create individual and group videos and discuss the differences in their approaches and the expected outcomes. I will also report on satisfaction with the learning process based on a questionnaire using the ARCS motivational model. Finally, I discuss the effects of the active use of online translation applications in creating videos. |
| Description: | Este artigo apresenta a prática de narrativa digital (DST) num curso elementar de Japonês A1.2. Em primeiro lugar, é descrita a situação atual e as questões do ensino da língua japonesa em Portugal e na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto, seguindo-se os antecedentes da implementação da narrativa digital. Em seguida, é descrita a investigação existente sobre a narrativa digital no ensino de línguas a nível universitário e analisado se a narrativa digital implementada tem os mesmos efeitos pedagógicos que estes estudos já existentes. Foi pedido aos estudantes que criassem vídeos individuais e de grupo, sendo discutidas as diferenças nas suas abordagens e nos resultados esperados. Também se dá informação sobre a satisfação com o processo de aprendizagem com base num questionário utilizando o modelo motivacional ARCS. Finalmente, são discutidos os efeitos da utilização ativa de aplicações de tradução online na criação de vídeos. |
