Arquitectura VS Natureza. Desvanecer os Limites

Abstract

This dissertation aims to create both a theoretical and practical approach to the problem defined in this investigation, which is the limits or disassociation that has existed between the elements of representation of nature and architecture. It seeks to break these limits in order to achieve a more flexible perspective of inhabiting space, where architecture considers including elements of nature in its dynamics. The project of this investigation is developed in the city of Porto and it aims to integrate harmoniously elements of an ecosystem in a real case. There is also an approach from different perspectives, concepts and projects that incorporate hypotheses of relationships that allow us to understand and reflect the main problem of this reserch. This investigation was structured in 6 chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the topic to expose the perspectives considered in the investigation, the objectives and the methodology. Chapter 2 defines the concepts with approaches that provide theoretical foundations for the relationship between architecture and nature. Chapter 3 recognizes the relationship between architecture and nature in a historical context and current architectural references that have approaches to dilute the limits. In chapter 4, the physical and biotic elements that make up the space of the city of Porto are studied in general, as this is the work site selected to develop the project. In chapter 5 the work site in Boavista area of Porto is identified and its surroundings are analyzed in order to expose the elements of interest for the investigation, in this chapter the suggested programs to be developed in the building, which is a commercial center and urban park, are also analyzed. Last chapter is the practical part of the investigation, an architectural project that applies the theoretical foundations studied in the previous chapters to create a specific approach that incorporates elements of nature and seeks to blur the limits. This investigation approaches the possibility of developing an architectural project taking into consideration natural elements.
