(Re)Projetar uma habitação: Residência para três pilotos em Leixões

Abstract

The present dissertation, under the title "(Re)Projecting a Dwelling", is based on the practical exercise carried out in the scope of the Project 1 Curricular Unit, which consisted in the elaboration of a design exercise for a temporary residence for three merchant navy pilots, from Leixões harbor. The land was located at Quinta da Conceição in Leça da Palmeira and was characterized as a steep terrain full of eucalyptus. A reflexive critical analysis of the initial project allows the identification of the positive and negative points of the proposal, from which a project rehearsal will be developed, based on the knowledge resulting from the learning throughout the training and the present test. In this way, the program and the terrain are accepted as premises for the development and elaboration of a (Re) project. The projectual thought is in constant transformation, the project proposal already realized, being available, is intended to provide material for questioning and deepening. The first projects are always realized in a naive way; thus, this process allows the student to develop critical-reflexive skills that are fundamental to her future professional practice and, as such, will be a fundamental end of cycle. Only questioning can lead to a greater awareness in the act of designing. Specifically, the project to be carried out from the deepening of the third exercise of Project 1 aims to raise a series of questions related to the concept of dwelling. Thus, the objectives of this dissertation are to deepen the study of key themes related to single-family dwellings, Atmospheres and Sensations as determinants of domestic space, Public / Private, Interior / Exterior, Privacy / Intimacy. It is hoped that this work will provide the author with a valuable tool for her professional future, and that she will see each project as an opportunity for growth and a challenge to be overcome, in an inner dialogue of questioning / analysis and reflection. The dissertation will conclude with the identification of learning opportunities and personal growth, resulting from the exercise. All the knowledge acquired along the academic path, remains and develops; thus, a clear evolution will be noted between the two projects. The reflective cycle will be concluded by enhancing evolution, growth, and improvement.
