A construção do ritual como constante no projeto. Estudo da obra de Paolo Zermani

Abstract

This dissertation proposes a reflection on the life and work of Paolo Zermani, professor and architect native of Medesano, part of the province of Parma. Based on the recognition of the importance of all his work - which is most evident in the Italian context - this research proposes a complementary perspective on this architect who, by the ability to go through various epochs of the history of architecture, builds a very particular understanding of each circumstance, which manifests itself in a remarkable coherence in each project. Place, Time, Earth, Light and Silence are then presented as fundamental concepts, guiding the discourse and, above all, of an idea of architecture. These take shape through six projects by the author: Cappella sul Mare (Malta, 1989), Restauro e ricostruzione del Castello Sforzesco-Visconteo di Novara (Novara, 2016), Chiesa di San Giovanni (Perugia, 1997-2007), Mausoleo dei Primi Cristiani sul Bastione del Sangallo (Roma, 1994), Cappella nel Bosco (Varano dei Marchesi, 2012) and Casa Zermani (Varano dei Marchesi, 1997). Therefore, they are assumed as moments of attempt to construct a ritual - from the point of view of the principles they establish - resulting in an opportunity to be able to contribute to the dissemination of this architect's contribution, through the identification of links between biography and its references, thus recognizing the coherence of his approach.
