Abstract

The importance of rediscovering the role of historical infrastructures in rural contexts, objectifying their relationship with places in order to interpret their meaning in the face of contemporary challenges, is the leitmotiv that constantly guides the path of this master's thesis. By slowly and consciously crossing a marginal territory, the work interrogates the landscape, finding in its superposition of signs a primary structure of minimal elements, a constellation of architectures and artefacts belonging to different landscapes but linked by physical lines, semantic paths and references visuals. The recognition of this territorial structure becomes the key to understanding the system, being taken as a useful code to reveal the meanings hidden within places and to allow us to extract from the landscape itself the raw materials that will form the basis for the definition of a design philosophy. After inserting the study area in the macro-territorial context, revealing the interconnections it establishes with other systems not too distant, the work synthesizes and compares the issues raised during the development of the investigation, testing the conclusions reached through the exercise of three project experiences of architecture, three interventions that interpret the potential of the place, suggesting the necessary directions to rescue the suspended identity of these lands.
