A Casa de Angra do Heroísmo. Uma análise tipológica e construtiva do edificado da Rua Direita

Abstract

This dissertation has as object of study the builds of Rua Direita in the city of Angra do Heroísmo. It seeks to understand its typological and constructive evolution over time, by identifying a possible organizational pattern that was at its origin. Focusing on case studies, different contents are addressed as a way to develop the theme, dividing this work into three chapters. Firstly, it seeks to contextualize the street in time and space, using an introduction to the importance that Angra do Heroísmo had and how the historical role of this city influenced the Rua Direita program and its urban planning. It follows for an approach to the street, contextualizing its consolidation, the metrics of its lots and the function attributed to it. Moving on to the identification of the most recurrent housing modules in the urban construction of Angra, in its historic center and in the adjacent periphery. The pre-industrial construction system is also approached in order to introduce the construction aspects transversal to the case studies as well as the materials with which these houses were built. Finally, case studies are addressed using presentation forms that systematize their current state. Furthermore, a comparative analysis is made between the various cases studies, trying to think about the evolution of each dwelling, in an attempt to find the scheme that had its origin. This analysis is consolidated with the registration of elements that characterize the interior spaces of these houses, understanding the evolution of the use of spaces until today.
