Problemática suscitada pelas escavações do sítio pré-histórico do Castanheiro do Vento (Horta do Douro, Vila Nova de Foz Côa), sobretudo após a campanha de 2005

Abstract

The authors present a general review of the main results of their excavations (1998-2005) in a prehistoric site called Castanheiro do Vento, situated in the territory of the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa (parish of Horta do Douro), district of Guarda, NE of Portugal. Its chronology is mainly located in the III and in the first half of the II millenia B.C. (Copper and Bronze Ages). Basically, it is a monumentalized hill, implying a concentration of architectonic effort which was certainly crucial for the populations who built it, maintained it, and finally covered it with stones, in a sort of clogging action. This action transformed a complex series of precincts and a labyrinth of paths into an homogeneous lithic “ruin” which was, by itself, also a sort of “monument”.
