A matriz do comportamento do político populista: uma perspectiva da ascensão do bolsonarismo no Brasil

Abstract

Following a bibliographic survey of the different definitions and typologies of political populism (Wieviorka, 1993; Eco, 2006; Engesser et al., 2018; Judis, 2017; inter alia), we sought to create a matrix of the populist's behaviour, focusing especially on the three classic areas of political ideology: left, centre and right. We then compared and applied this matrix to Jair Bolsonaro's behaviour, based on the analysis of the speech he gave at the UN General Assembly on 24 September 2019, to create a matrix of the populist behaviour of the President of Brazil. We believe that this study, in addition to demonstrating the type of Bolsonaro's populism, can help citizens predict the 21 narrative characteristics that this politician uses to try to shape the public opinion of Brazil.
