Um Mirante ao Vale do Mondego: 'Construção de um Ninho'

Abstract

To make architecture is to seek rethoric. Whitout it a building is just a building. To intervene on pre-exhistent architecture thus mean to recognize its rethoric, in order to adapt it to a new meaning - capable of adjusting both to predicates of the past and to contemporary dynamics. This dissertation is the result of an organic and methodical quest for the rethoric and narratives of a building upon wish one intends to intervene, the "Mirante" of the 'Casa de Formoselha', in the Mondego Valley, and it's assemblage and overlap, according to a proccess of synthesis - the design of a house-shelter able to absorb the qualities of a home. The image of a nest is positioned in the intersection of these two intentions: to get to know this 'mirante' tower and to give it a sense of 'home'. Making it simultaneously the object-idea and the objective - narrative to be rehearsed. A 'Mirante' at the Mondego Valley: 'Building a Nest' celebrates a journey (that became methodical) about the knowledge that sustains the unutterable spectrum of the criative process, one's intuition. Questioning, under the purview of history and theory, the object's 'raison d'être', its social, cultural and political context, but also the imaginary and principles (sometimes of a phenomenologycal sort) that arise from it and that allow to expand the intervention's meaning, confirming, at last, that the impulses of the intuition are as desordered as they are rigorous.
