Interseções: espaço, luz, arquitetura e escultura através da obra de Matta-Clark

Abstract

Space is decoded by light, by touch, by the plurality of sensations that captivate within the sensory universe of the body. Architecture seeks, through the recognition of this potential, to create moments, comfort and enhance human experience. Likewise, sculpture takes possession of reality and manipulates it in a search for the spiritual, the critical, the ambiguous. Gordon Matta-Clark intervenes in a gray area between the two disciplines. Through architecture, he reflects on its essence, treating abandoned buildings as an object, transforming them around political and spatial themes and questioning their surroundings while exposing their degradation. However, it demonstrates the unexplored potential of space, and the intentional way of spatial rupture that provides moments and stimulates the sensory capacity of the uninhabited. In this way, his works allowed to create a plot that, through the singular analysis of the works of the architects Álvaro Siza, Rem Koolhaas, Louis Kahn and Steven Holl, and the sculptors Robert Smithson, Richard Serra and Eduardo Chillida, characterizes one of the modus operandi of architecture.
