Title: Projecto Chesa Zamboni: processos e propostas de transformação arquitectónica
Issue Date: 2020-07-07
Abstract: The objective of this dissertation is to formulate several hypotheses of rehabilitation of an historical house located in the Engadine valley, which is located in the Swiss canton Grisons. This house belongs to a typology of buildings characteristic of the valley, called Engadinerhaus. The work uses the study of these houses with the intention of understanding them from their origin to their typological fxation, going through the whole process of evolution, in order to apprehend what the new uses and forms of coherent interventions can be. As a concrete object we chose Chesa Zamboni in Bever. Originally built as part of a sixteenth-century farmhouse, the existing bourgeoisie inhabited house was renovated in several stages between 1810 and 1902. Moreover, with a project in mind, this dissertation wants to understand how the tools with which the architect thinks and acts on the built heritage are fundamental for the enrichment and recognition of its identity. We then carried out three proposals for Chesa Zamboni covering diferent programs. The frst presents the project of a small hotel where the reinterpretation of the whole building is considered. The second creates an art gallery that develops only in a fragment of the existing building. The third proposal focuses on the division of the building into two autonomous apartments. It is on this last one that we will focus in greater depth, always keeping in mind considerations based on both the architectural and patrimonial respect of the Chesa Zamboni, and the budgetary limitations that mark this intervention and that also constitute a challenge for this project.
