Castro de Guifões (Matosinhos): evidências de uma ocupação diacrónica

Abstract

This text looks into a site currently under study in the framework of a Research Project in Archaeology. Long identified, it has already been subjected to multiple looks and interventions, designed to respond to different questions, using very diverse methodologies. The dispersion of the many data and materials recovered by the various figures that worked therein, coupled with a wide history of destructions, transformations, and evolution of land uses, makes complex and simultaneously, challenging, the understanding of the strategies of space fixation and appropriation in this settlement. Benefiting from a remarkable geographical implantation, condition probably indissociable from the longevity of its occupation, it is assumed as an essential reference point in the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula for the period that extends between Proto-History and Medieval Age. The issues raised by the archaeological record (the existing, along with what is under construction), as well as by the documentary references that are dedicated to this Castro, constitutes a source of open research, to be explored in different ways.
