| Abstract: | The relationship between city and religion has proved to be a new theme within the sociology of religion, particularly in Europe, and supported theoretically through the post-secularization, subjective turn, and religious market theses. Evangelical Christianity, in a process of reconfiguration, which is not only the result of immigration but mobilized by competitive strategies within the religious field, has been one of the examples of religion's return to the city. This article seeks to reflect on this phenomenon. It is empirically illustrated by case studies of two evangelical churches in Porto, with a mostly young audience, aesthetically and liturgically aligned with contemporary urban culture, but which continue to value biblical authority |
| Description: | A relação entre cidade e religião tem-se revelado uma nova temática dentro da sociologia da religião, de modo particular na Europa, e sustentada teoricamente através das teses da pós-secularização, subjetivação e mercado religioso. O cristianismo evangélico, num processo de reconfiguração, o qual não é apenas resultante da imigração, mas mobilizado por estratégias competitivas dentro do campo religioso, tem sido um dos exemplos de regresso da religião à cidade. O presente artigo procura refletir sobre este fenómeno e é ilustrado empiricamente por estudos de caso de duas igrejas evangélicas na cidade do Porto, maioritariamente constituídas por jovens, estética e liturgicamente alinhadas com a cultura urbana contemporânea, mas que continuam a valorizar a autoridade bíblica |
