Espaço Comum. Uma interpretação da obra de David Chipperfield

Abstract

This dissertation proposes an interpretation of the work of David Chipperfield, starting from the double theoretical and practical condition that the author establishes with the discipline of architecture, either through his constructed work, his projects, his curatorial activity or his writings, namely Theoretical Practice. At the great Venice Biennale Architecture Exhibition in 2012, Chipperfield, the curator chosen for the big event - a show that brings together contributions from a wide range of countries - had the opportunity to spread to a broad and specialized audience his position in relation to the craft proposing as a theme that year the concept of "Common Ground". Understood by many as a theme that focused mainly on the city and public space, the truth is that Chipperfield's common ground has other readings that integrate the tradition, the learning with the masters, the models, that is, the history of the architecture itself. A common ground that assumes the dual theoretical and practical condition in a symbiosis between the constructed work, the project and the writings, catalyst of the development of Chipperfield's creative process. Currently with four offices around the world, the architect presents a broad work that reveals his interests and ambitions common to society and architecture. It is from the various dimensions of his work that this work is born.
