Da memória à reinserção: Uma intervenção no património da Leprosaria Nacional

Abstract

The following dissertation takes the opportunity, in an academic context, to deepen the study of the hospital space, using the analysis of the former Leprosaria Nacional Rovisco Pais and the development of a practical project in the old hospital of its herritage. Nowadays, the old leprosy center works as a center for medic rehabilitation, in the parish of Tocha, belonging to the district of Coimbra. The paper is structured in three chapters that reunite a set of interpretations, readings, references and approaches to the compatibility between the intervention and rehabilitation issues of a building, which inserts itself in the terrain in a particular way, and the guidelines of the hospital space and its functional demanding. Place, program and functionality form the circumstance of a practical and conclusive respond to the theme of healthcare architecture.
