A casa dos Possacos - da memória à construção de um novo significado

Abstract

The construction of a new meaning for the house in Possacos, arises from the will to act in something concrete. Due to the importance of the house in Possacos for the family and the desire of transform it in a vacation home, after my grandparents have passed away, was a good opportunity to work within the single family housing theme. The house is located about 3,5km from the center of Valpaços, Vila Real district, in the village of Possacos. To define an intervention strategy its mandatory to read the territory ant to interpretate the architecture of the region, in order to transform the existing house willing to transport it to contemporaneity and adapt it to the wishes of the new owners. The house is located "separated" from the center of the village by the national road number 206. The access to the plot where the house is, is done through a steep street that leads us to a square with no other exit. In order to support the agricultural practice, it had been built a one floor building. Later it has been adapted to give way to the couple's dwelling in a continuous process of various interventions and additions until it had become what is now known. Despite the strong connection with the pre-existing house, the family showed willingness to transform the house that once belonged to the grandparents.
