Pela Preservação do Património Familiar: Reabilitação da Casa da rainha, São Paio de Oleiros

Abstract

It is presented in this dissertation, another situation in which the natural evolution of family and society leads to the abandonment of a house that prevailed in the family for several generations, what is considered family heritage is left in the hands of time. In this sense, this master's dissertation focuses on the elaboration of a study and proposed intervention in a forsaken building, the Casa da Rainha, which is thought to belong to the nineteenth century, with predominantly habitational character. Housed in a family property, it is located in the parish of São Paio de Oleiros, the borough of Santa Maria da Feira, in the district of Aveiro. Being a dwelling lived by the author's childhood, the memories, analysis and place and pre-existent built interpretation are used for the study and reflection production on the problems inherent to the intervention inbuilt heritage, mainly in the Portuguese context. This study will lead to a reasoned and consistent intervention proposal for the building. The analysis and reflection process aims to restore and value the built components that makeup Casa da Rainha, uninhabited for approximately 18 years. The purpose of this study is to give a new life to the vacant house, which culminates in a practical exercise of design where we witness not only conservation of structures that characterize it, but also the demolition of structures that undermine its identity. Additionally, the reconciliation of a new volume with the original aims to address not only to the current housing needs, as well as, in an informed manner, the typological confirmation of preexistence growth.
