Cinema Paradiso:a reabilitação de um equipamento do século XX

Abstract

The abandonment of twentieth-century urban cinemas is a consequence of technological development and consumerism. The new equipment that fulfilled the ambitions of the new show and the modern movement is pushed into the shopping malls, moving cinemas to post-industrial intercities and urban agglomerations. A cinematic desertification arises, which hinders access to culture, and accentuates the industry's lack of interest in its popular character. The great buildings of the past century are now empty shells, offering nothing more than programmatic obsoletism. This is what the Vale de Cambra's Cinema represents: a cultural and urban vacuum. The proposal for its reuse seeks the reconciliation of the cinematography industry with the community and, consequently, of the community itself.
