Chambord Inachevé: A planta quadrada na habitação Dissertação

Abstract

Participating in the "Chambord Inachevé" competition, which aimed to reflect on a utopian and humanistic vision of the château de Chambord, generated a concept of 'ideal city' based on the square shape of the château, with the group project "Chambord 2519". This dissertation arises from said participation as a reflection on the square plan, adapted to the habitational program, aiming to understand the organizational possibilities of this space. The exploration of the square plan was divided into two parts. Firstly, a reflection on the château de Chambord, through the topics of plan design, Italian inspiration, and French determination, resulting in the theme of the ideal city, initially generated by the competition. Secondly, in order to analyse square plans in a habitational context, a connection was established between the square shape's concept and the plan's intention. Twenty-eight projects were analysed, including both single and multi-family habitation, and four themes arose from these: central space, central vertical circulation, division into quadrants, and free organization. The analysis was compiled into a Plan Map, which provides a visual contextualisation of the themes, in order to identify their similarities and differences. This work promoted the understanding of a plan, the shape of which is not very common in the habitational context. The square form proved apt to organise the program of a habitation in multiple ways, and to create beautiful architectonic spaces, capable of kindling the pleasure of inhabiting.
