| Abstract: | The representation of the family world, with several generations' testi-monies, implies both a public and a personal point of view. Often, family affairs are also, in a way, small incidents of great historical mutations. At present, and in Portugal, we still find this kind of novel, which, as a rule, attracts readers greedy to rediscover experiences lived or imagined. The present essay studies a novel published in 1995, where dead characters pre-sent the family plot, speaking of past episodes, rarely objective and not obeying the rigid chronology, but signifying the family life they want to remember |
| Description: | Tradicionalmente, a representação da família saldava-se por relatos mais ou menos longos, que percorriam várias gerações cumpridoras de um destino ligado à sucessividade cronológica, com todas as consequências daí decor-rentes, pessoais e públicas. Frequentemente, as peripécias familiares eram, também, de certa forma, pequenos incidentes de grandes mutações históri-cas. Na atualidade, e em Portugal, ainda encontramos este tipo de romance, que, regra geral, atrai leitores sedentos de reencontrar experiências vividas ou imaginadas. O presente ensaio estuda um romance publicado em 1995, onde a história familiar é apresentada através de relatos de personagens mortas, evocadoras de episódios entrelaçados na memória, que se afastam da cronologia rígida, mas que significam, na perfeição, o tecido familiar que pretendem recordar |
