As cartas de quitação como fonte para a história fiscal portuguesa

Abstract

After a brief introduction, which seeks to describe the incipient Portuguese fiscal history, and the scarcity of sources at our disposal, we focus on a specific type of source, the discharge letter, from which we have a reasonable number of copies of the fifteenth century, and we try to evaluate all the information we can draw from it, all the calculations we can do, and how it helps us understand the structure of the Crown's finances and of the local economies.
