A cidade de dentro: um futuro para o Bairro do Silva

Abstract

Let's begin with the end: for stating that this dissertation has as its ultimate goal or, perhaps, first, to inform about the persistence of the phenomenon and to make known another "Ilha do Porto", hidden in the city's blocks. This work aims, therefore, to alert to the existence of these organisms still alive but sick, and to the resolution so long in arriving. It also aims to address the problem of the lack of housing that has always been felt and is once again checked in the city center, in a deliberate attempt to combine both problems and, from there, find a common solution. Therefore, the example of Bairro do Silva, an "Ilha" in Rua do Bonjardim (nº 541), is seen as the as instigator of this work. The possible proposal arises from a set of methodologies that aim to understand the object, from its space-time context to the verification of its current state. In turn, this exhaustive analysis allows to draw and to justify modes of operation. Assuming that a number of feasible solutions could emerge, intervention is justified by recalling a first observation: the binomial "Ilha" / lack of housing. The project strategy necessarily broaches diverse scales and relationships: the City and Neighborhood, common spaces and housing, in an attempt to promote uses and connections between object and user.
