As identidades nas diferenças: Uma investigação sobre a similaridade de elementos e composições arquitectónicas na idealizada diversidade da arquitectura globalizada

Abstract

The Identities in Differences develops a study of the prominence of symbolic projects in the period after the fall of Berlin Wall to the present day, especially involving the countries embedded in the global market economy, led by nations with greatest economic power. Besides the criticism of the desire to promote a show or sensationalist architecture, the participation of these works in the formation of the contemporary urban landscape in different parts of the globe during the period is undeniable. On the other hand, it seems the premise and guiding principle of the so-called iconic architecture, present themselves globally and always try to respond to the program as a novelty, be it in the form, in the implantation or in the use of materials, seeking to stand out as a symbol precisely through this diversity. The hypothesis of the work is that there are concepts of ordering elements and architectural composition within this diversity that can be aligned and cataloged. The analysis presents a study of the structure of contemporary economically globalized society, which provokes a global culture, universe that allows the development of these projects. For a precise definition of the field of study, it is proposed the identification of a set of architects that represents this society and their projects, formatting a database to later analysis. As an analytical tool, it is proposed a method of comparison between the projects, in order to establish the existence of connection points in the mentioned areas, that allow quantitative and qualitative comparisons and allow the analysis and critique of the material. From this tool the analysis of the projects is done, culminating with the identification of such characteristics and structures that may exist within this universe. Aiming to verify the data, and to understand the relation of the objects constructed with the urban place occupied by them, eleven buildings of the analyzed set are visited, generating part of the material that composes the presented case studies.
