Discursos cruzados entre Brasil e Portugal: emigração, colonização e escravatura branca

Abstract

In this article, we start with the recognition of an important migratory current from Portugal to Brazil and the possibility of several readings on this social fact. As an exercise, we sought to highlight the dissonances in the production of discourses on this emigration: we approached the positions of some Brazilian authors who wished to promote the colonization of Brazil with Europeans; we revisited Portuguese authors who evaluated the relevance of the migratory current: one of them more favorable to the departures, distinguishing the various types of emigration, another against this emigration and defending its restriction. We emphasize the persistence of emigration, despite the speeches. We present a case study based on the remaining documentation in the Archives.
