A cultura como pertença: da nação à casa comum europeia? = The culture as belonging: from the nation to the European common house?

Abstract

This paper begins by proposing a reflection on culture as a form of European unity in the last three centuries, notwithstanding the emergence of the phenomenon of cultural nationalism, and the cogitations on the subject of European culture. This issue has been valued in the framework of the European Union, which simultaneously seeks to promote national identity singularities, in a complex equation that seeks to make diversity compatible with the unity. Present challenges range from the demand of the European soul to the promotion of intercultural dialogue, considering that culture is an indispensable factor of communion in the European house.
