Comunidades em Diálogo: Proposta de intervenção arquitectónica no convento de São Francisco de Portimão

Abstract

Counting with the strong turistic vocation of the territory of Algarve, that determines the presence and coexistence of a diverse group of communities and habitants, "Communities in Dialogue" arise by the personal concerning of trying to improve the inter-community bond of the habitants of Algarve and those who visit them. The main goal of the dissertation was the urban requalification of the city of Portimão, in particular, the connecting shaft between Rocha's beach and the center of the city. Over this shaft, the ruin of the convent of São Francisco of Portimão arise as an priority intervention act, either for its strategic location, either for the opportunity of creating a new equipment that serves simultaneously the needs of the resident community as like an entrance door for those who visit it. Through the architectural project exercise it is intended cross in the same space the diverse communities that pass by the city of Portimão, encouraging the dialogue between them. The investigation work meant an analisis and reflexion that summon different scales and times: urban, building, construction; past present and future, in relation to the study object. The research of other architectural interventions in buildings with the same typology also participated on the project process becoming in a crucial base for it. Thus, on a first part was opted for a approach at the city scale focusing on the three times of evolution and transformation; on a second part we focused on the history and actual state of the convent as a contextualization of the study object; Point out the studied architectural references to complement our intervention proposal that is clarified at the end how it was thought for this architectural complex.
