Quinta da Boavista - memória como princípio. Uma proposta de intervenção

Abstract

The theme of intervention in patrimony assumed a determinant role in Architecture and in the contemporary society, and has been a focal point of a growing cultural debate, focusing both its importance and its necessity, as a way of preservation of the forms of the past and it associated memory. The Quinta da Boavista is an example of a building - apart of his own historical and architectonical value, and because of the corrosive character of time and the human actions - that has been abandoned and forgotten. The work's motivation is base by the interest on the theme of intervention, and by the author's personal reasons, in which the Quinta was chosen as the study object of this thesis. Therefore, it is elaborated a suggestion of rehabilitation based in a wide work of theoretical validity, through a comparative analysis of architectonical references, in the documental investigation and in the reading of specific bibliography about the building, the site and the typology, and in an extensive exercise of topographical settings - in which the different types of drawing reveal themselves as essentials in the comprehension of the premise, in the work methods and in the process of projectual conception. The revitalization of the Quinta da Boavista, of its history and its memory, throw the connection of contemporary necessities and requirements with the forms of the past, creates a bridge and a harmonious dialog between the architecture's different times.
