Abstract

The present dissertation proposes to study the expositional space in its relationship with Art and Architecture. In order to understand the expositional space, it is necessary to study its evolution and the contribution of accomplished artistic interventions, mainly during the 20th century. This study originates from readings in which were identified several expositional spaces of different types: institutional expositional spaces (museums and art centers) and non-institutional expositional spaces (galleries, alternative and ephemeral). The selected case studies aim to consolidate and reflect the obtained knowledge and are the result of several architectural, curatorial and programmatic solutions within the European territory. This dissertation intends to reflect the expositional space in its complexity and multiplicity, its relationship with Art, its contribution for the substantiation of culture and, on the other hand, to understand how artists, curators, and architects operate in space and construct a personal narrative.
