Memória de Compu - Análise crítica do património chilote

Abstract

This Dissertation is the product of a personal experience which took place in Chile during the exchange program semester where we had the opportunity, through a trip to the south, to instate a working group with the intent of recognizing and promoting the rural and coastal villages of the Chiloé Island. Compu village, where the sketched survey and the social analysis took place, is the main topic of our dissertation and it represents for us, a unique opportunity since it allowed us to embrace a direct contact with the reality, never experienced by us before. As we understand it, Compu represents a moment of our individual development and where we found the possibility to acquire new skills, foment a renewed critical performance and built a work methodology with the potential to be effective in other future works. With these ideas in mind, the work is divided into three chapters where we try to pass on several perspectives of Compu and from the experience we had itself, in an analysis organized in general and particular themes. First, we try to put into words the significance of the Journey and consider its pertinence as an element that promotes the contact with a real experience making it possible to relate practice and study. Afterwards, the study follows an approach to the territory as a way to understand the circumstance that generates a particular way of living - its status as an Island and its connection with the outside, the habitability of the region, the strategic locations of the villages and the way they organize on the territory. This analysis has the purpose to incorporate a spatial and temporal review of the Island in a way that makes the dynamics of its present clear. Last but not least we take our focus to the village itself, our main issue, in a way that allows us to reflect and review our journey. Benefitting from the information collected on the field, we trace the several perspectives figured on the place - from the ones who live there and the ones visiting, under the gaze of the layman and the professional. From these interpretations we try to define the principals that rule the place and give it a particular identity - its development aligned with the sea, the church as an element of exception that gives another scale to the village (at a landscape and cultural level) or its people, the ones that ensure an active participation on the progress of the village. We also take this opportunity to reflect on the future possibilities of the village as well as the importance of this experience in our own journey.
