Abstract: This paper argues that Paul Auster, the American writer whose novéis in the 1980´s and 1990´s are (auto-) reflexive fictions about fiction, presents a portrait of an artist as a young man, and a reflection about the nature of artistic creativity in Mr Vertigo.
