Teatro português em Marrocos no tempo de Filipe II : o testemunho do Cancioneiro de D. Maria Henriques

Abstract

The author studies the drama production by D. Francisco da Costa, Portuguese ambassador to Morocco, first under the rule of Cardinal D. Henrique (1579-1580) and later under the rule of Filipe II (1590-1591). This study also incorporates D. Francisco da Costa’s drama production in the literary context of “the so called Cancioneiro de D. Maria Henriques” and in the historical and cultural framework of that period. This research work pays especial attention to its similarities with the chronicles narrating the aspects and conditions of the Portuguese captive in Morocco after the Battle of Alcácer Quibir.
